In 1991, Somalia’s central government collapsed in the face of insurrection and civil war. Soon after, Somaliland seceded to form a separate nation. Thousands fled, but some chose to stay. ‘Through the Fire’ is the story of three such women who have risked their lives to sustain their communities through decades of war and famine. Overcoming seemingly insurmountable obstacles, we see how they are engineering creative solutions to bring about peace and renewal. When the world abandoned them and their communities, they refused to give up or walk away. This is their story.
